Vocabulary
- go on strike/vacation/holiday/a hike/a trip/a picnic
- perform a song/a play/surgery/operation/a piece of music
**In this case, play means something like a role playing in the theater.** - make a discover/a profit/a reservation/an appointment/a plan
- break a record/a promise/a contact/the rules
- come into fashion/money/my heart/one's own
**come into fashion means a trendy fashion is popular now.** - develop an idea/a product/an illness/a skill/one's vocabulary

Use the past continuous for temporary actions and situations

Use the past simple for complete, finishd actions in the past, and for long or permanent situations.
- eg) I lived in Berlin for ten years when I was a child.
<Past simple and past continuous together>
When the past simple and past continuous are used together, the past continuous refers to the longer, background action or situation, the past simple refers to the shorter action or main event that happened to interrupt it.
- eg) I was walking through the park when the storm began.

- I forgot the value of being awake.
