[UX] Emotional design case – OMEGA's TV Commercial
When I saw this TV commercial. I felt so emotional even if I am not interested in such a expensive watch.
I have never thought about buying this kind of expensive one and I was not attracted to this at all. However, it made my mind move to and made me anxious of this.
In the commercial, you could see many hints for touching people's mind so sweetly.
Firstly, a BGM(Background Music) is so dramatic. You can think that you have heard about this kind of melody line when you watch a impressive movie like a hero save the earth as his death. It usually makes our mind sad somehow but it can also wave your emotion.
Secondly, everything in the scene is so analogue. You know we are living in so digital world these days. When you see this kind of scenes, you might want to miss the previous time even if there were inconvenient no matter what before. We could be happy without too many funny things and people were so close each other. We could feel like that time when we see some analogue things.
Thirdly, a catch phrase is very short, but powerful and impressive. It will last so long to our mind. I can't tell how beautiful the catch phrase, "The most perfect mechanical watch movements in the world", is.
Fourthly, they try to appeal that they made it by human. This approach is also kind of analogue. you can trust the watch because it is made by a master and it is enough to think that the watch is so worthy.
I think this commercial has a lot of apparatuses for making people impressed even their philosophy about what they are doing and where they are now and the future.
The time is short but it lasts so long time in my mind, by the way. I just recommend you to watch it and feel it. I am sure that you also feel like me.
I believe that especially emotional UX design should consider many things like this commercial. You would have to know how to use dramatic sound and impressive story line like analogue things sometimes. I wish you would feel it not learn it with this commercial. Sometimes when you design emotional UX, it might be much more important to feel it before you thought.
